DocsSwap on one chain

Swap on one chain

Pick two tokens on the same network and Cleave splits your trade over many pools and paths. You see the route, the price and every step before your wallet asks for anything.

Pick tokens and an amount

  1. Connect a browser wallet or a mobile wallet.
  2. Under You pay, pick the network and the token.
  3. Under You receive, pick a token on the same network.
  4. Type an amount, or tap Max.

Search by token name or paste a token address. A token that is not on our list shows Not on our list. Check the address. and needs an import first. Tokens flagged as risky, unverified or sharing a listed token's name carry a warning in the picker.

When you pay with the native coin, Max keeps a little back for network fees. The note under the amount shows how much.

How the quote is built

Cleave prices your trade on listed exchanges and divides it over many pools and paths. The route view shows each path and its share of your input: the wider the path, the larger its share. Switch between the diagram and a list.

  • Rate is the price you get. Pool fees are already inside it, and Cleave's fees are inside it too.
  • The quote refreshes on its own and shows when it last updated.
  • After a while without activity the quote pauses. Tap it to refresh.
  • Share copies a link that opens the swap with the same tokens and amount.

See How quoting works for more.

Slippage and deadline

Slippage is how far the price may move before the swap stops. Pick 0.1 %, 0.5 % or 1 %, or set a custom value from 0.01 % to 99.99 %. The default is 0.5 %, and your choice is kept on this device.

A same-chain swap also carries a 10 min deadline.

Price impact

A large trade moves the pool price. When the quote reports price impact, it shows as Price impact −x% under the amount you receive and again in Review. Cleave never blocks the trade for it: in Review, tick I accept the price impact to continue. If the impact grows after you tick, Review asks you to tick again.

Review

Review shows what happens before anything is sent. You pay and You receive sit at the top, with the network and the rate under them:

RowWhat it shows
You payAmount and token leaving your wallet
You receiveExpected amount of the token you get
MinimumThe least you can get at your slippage
RatePrice for this trade
ToThe receiving address
Network costEstimated gas for the remaining steps

Below the rows, Steps lists each wallet action in order, with its gas.

Send to another address

Add a Recipient to send the output elsewhere. You can type an address or a .eth name. Review then shows the full address with a warning that it is not your connected wallet.

Approvals and permits

Some tokens need permission before Cleave can move them:

  • Approve asks for the amount of this trade, never an unlimited allowance.
  • A token that takes its own transfer fee is marked before you swap and needs a little more: the measured amount plus a 0.5 % margin, at most twice the amount. The quote states it, and your wallet shows the exact figure.
  • A few tokens need Reset approval first, which sets the old allowance to zero.
  • If your wallet already gave this token a Permit2 allowance, Review may show Sign instead of Approve. The signature covers this trade only and expires with the quote. Cleave never asks you to approve Permit2 itself.

Leftover approvals can be removed from the swap screen or from Activity.

Send the swap

Every step is test-run before your wallet asks. If a step would fail, Review says This transaction would fail. and nothing is sent.

  1. Confirm each step in your wallet.
  2. Review shows the step as pending until the network confirms it.
  3. If you speed up or cancel in your wallet, Review shows that too.

If the price or route changes while Review is open, Review updates the amounts and marks what changed.

After the swap

The result shows the amount you received and the network cost you paid, with a link to the explorer.

  • Input that could not be routed comes back to your wallet in the same transaction, shown as returned to your wallet.
  • A token with its own transfer fee can deliver less than quoted. Review says so when it applies.
  • The swap stays in Activity on this device.

Wrap and unwrap

Swapping a network's native coin for its wrapped token, or back, is a wrap or unwrap: 1:1, no fee, one transaction. Wraps always go to your wallet.
